The summer season starts in mid March to early April, with temperatures noticeably rising during late March. It is at its peak during April and May, and subsides during late May or the start of June as the Southwest Monsoon sets in.

The winter season emerges during late November, with the weather getting drier and colder. The peak of this season starts after the December Solstice and lasts up to mid-January, i.e, the festival of Pongal in Tamilnadu, elsewhere known as Makar Sankranti and other names.
